Adult Slalom Sessions - Friday evenings at 6pm

Affectionately nick-named "Geezer Club," these Friday night slalom sessions are a chance for us to pull out our long boats & run some short courses. Anyone and everyone is welcome to come out and keep us company. We're a friendly bunch, and we'd be happy to show you a couple of tricks to make your boating more efficient. Afterwards, we like to relax riverside to enjoy a beer and the company of good friends. You don't need to be an expert paddler to join this crowd, but come expecting a free-form, easy-going time, not structured instruction. For the time being, sessions are hosted each week at the Nantahala Bridge Gates, but in future we plan to meet at multiple locations.

NRC Slalom Mini-Camp - June 22 & 23

This family-oriented camp is focused on making friends, having fun, and improving your slalom and overall river-running skills. Kids aged 8 - 17 are welcome. Parents of younger children are welcome to inquire as well.

What to expect:
Saturday, June 22: Two to three paddling sessions. Kids will be broken into two to three groups, depending on ability-level. Beginning on flatwater at the Finger Lake, we will learn skill-appropriate drills, strokes and skills. Those who need to brush up their roll will be given the opportunity to do so. Advanced paddlers will work on stroke technique with the aid of a video camera, sprints, and advanced drills.
Sunday, June 23: Coaching & race prep on Sunday, June 23 for those paddlers that choose to compete in the NRC Youth Regional Team Qualifier #2.

While we are interested in ultimately developing strong slalom athletes, we realize that helping our children develop friendships with other young paddlers is a critical aspect to their continued interest, and success in the sport. The NRC Slalom Mini-Camps are intended to be welcoming, family-friendly, and fun.
